Love Me, Love My Dog
It’s been revealed that a massive 66% of singles with pets wouldn’t even entertain the idea of dating someone who didn’t love animals and 35% of women find a man more attractive if he’s a pet owner. Welcome to one of the most important dating deal breakers yet – pets.
It’s extremely healthy to have different interests; it makes for better conversation and opens our eyes to new things, but as we get older and start to realise what we want (and what we definitely don’t want), our list of deal breakers gets longer and longer. For someone who loves their furry friends as much as any other member in their family, it’s an absolute MUST that their potential partner should like pets too. The pet has been in their life for a long time; they’ve been a shoulder to cry on, give the best cuddles and are always happy to see them. But you’re practically a stranger, so it makes sense that if you can’t at least try to bond with their furry child, it will be you out of the door, not the dog.
If you fancy a date with a pet owner but you’re not too keen on the ‘pet’ part, you’d better be prepared to fake it. ‘Pet people’ are usually very passionate and committed to the treatment of their animals, so if you’re uncomfortable around their pet or don’t give them any attention at all, they’ll be able to tell. The thought of someone coming in between this wonderful bond between them and this very special member of the family is enough to put them off very quickly. It’s not just a phase or an accessory; it’s a part of who they are.
So, if you’re not put off by coming second place to a dog (or cat), then put on a smile, give lots of cuddles and always bring treats… and remember to bring something for your new four-legged friend too!
