Just Singles On Location: Leeds
We got lost in Leeds this week, the UK’s 3rd largest city. The birthplace of Jelly Tots, Sooty and Sweep and moving images – Leeds also has a lot to offer romantically. Check out our top date ideas…
Daytime
Don’t feel you need to stick to one type of food on a lunch-date, especially not whilst you’re in Leeds. Head to Briggate on the first or third Sunday of the month and you’ll be treated to a whole range of produce in the Briggate Farmer’s Market. Briggate is one of the busiest streets in Leeds, packed with shops, bars and restaurants, so even when you’re both full after all that taste testing there are plenty of cafes and bars to rest in. For the more adventurous – why not have a picnic in Park Square (weather permitting).
Speaking of weather, an outdoor food market is a great idea- when it’s sunny. But if the weather happens to not be on your side we have a rainy-day plan B. How about seeing a movie at the Everyman Cinema? You pay a bit extra to watch films here, but the experience is well worth the money. It has its own Bar and Pizzeria restaurant so you can snack in style. And how about those chairs? Watch blockbuster films in more comfort than your own living-room. Complete with a choice of sofas, arm-chairs with foot-rests and even a couple’s chair – the perfect excuse to get closer…
Evening
Fancy a lazy evening where you and your date can escape the stresses of the week? Meet at the aptly named Lazy Lounge. For foodies, the lounge offers a delightful menu of home cooked, locally sourced food. Show your date how much of a wine/gin/whiskey connoisseur you are and have a go at some group tasting. The lounge boasts a wide variety of booze to schmooze over, all for a reasonable price too! For a jazzier night, head to Seven Jazz. Jazz events have been attracting music fans from all over Leeds to this chapel since 2007. It promises to provide an atmosphere like no other. With many different gigs to choose from, it could provide the perfect soundtrack to any romantic date, or at least drown-out any awkward silences.
Something Different…
If you’re thinking jazz music and movies are just not extreme enough for you – we dare you to face a chili challenge! Show off your gut of strength to your date and visit the Museum of Pain in the Chili-Shop. The shop boasts of selling chili’s ‘hotter than hell’ and from all over the world, and provides free tasters everyday. If even the thought of these terrifying treats are giving you indigestion there’s normal tasting food there too. The shop sells everything from jams, cheese and even ice-cream all with a chili twist. It may be scary sounding, but it’s a guaranteed way to heat up any date…
Have you been to any of the locations we’ve mentioned, or can you think of better ones? If so let us know, we’d love to hear your comments. Especially if you’ve tried out the chili-challenge, now that’s a story we’d all like to hear…
