Date Ideas For: Foodies

Sharing a meal together is the oldest date idea there is. ‘Cause hey, everyone needs to eat don’t they? But these date ideas aren’t for those run-of-the-mill, take-out, burger and fries kinds of people… No. These date ideas are for you true foodies. You can tell the country of origin of your pea purée just from sight alone. You only eat avocado on toast if it’s in the shape of a swan, served in a boot, and you know every food term they use on Masterchef. These ideas are for you, or if you’re dating someone who’s a true foodie…

Date ideas for foodies

1. Be the catch of the day

Make your own sushi together. It’s simple to do, the ingredients are cheap and it’s very hands on! If you want your date to think that you make your own sushi all the time, and it’s no big deal – definitely invest in a sushi rolling mat. With a few ingredients involved, you could definitely make this a group activity – it’s also tasty and good for you too! Nothing fishy about it…

2. Dine al fresco

Sometimes a fancy, expensive restaurant just loses it’s edge. Especially if you’d rather have a more intimate and personal date. If it’s a nice day, pack a picnic hamper of all your date’s favourite foods (not forgetting your home-made sushi) and go outdoors. Add a bottle of wine, or champagne to the mix, as this will make you look sophisticated but also thoughtful. There’ll be no awkward waiting for the next course silences on this date – not with the picturesque location you have picked.

3. Let’s get critical

Just to be clear, I mean critical of the food, not your date. Book a table at a restaurant that neither of you have been to before. You could maybe go for a completely new cuisine. Once seated, embrace your inner food critic and discuss the dishes and drink. Do you find the wine has an autumnal taste? Is the presentation of your berry reduction exquisite? You get the idea. You could rate the food, and even write an online review together. You’ll find out about your date’s tastes, and gather a better understanding of your compatibility.

4. Liquid lunch date

You’ll need something to go with all that homemade sushi you’ve now made. Instead of popping out to your local off-license, why not make a date of it? Go on a tour of a brewery or vineyard. You and your date will be able to learn how your favorite tipple is made, where it’s ingredients are sourced – and you’ll be able to share a taster or two. Shatter you date nerves by going to a place that actually encourages you to drink alcohol regardless of the time, for educational purposes… Obviously.

See? Foodies aren’t that scary if you find yourself dating one. Drop the diets and go after the foods that you love, with the people you love. For those of you who can’t boil an egg, fake it until you make it, or just watch loads of episodes of Kitchen Nightmares.
