A few weeks ago, I was approached by the dating site Just Singles to join their #3dates3mths challenge. As a writer of a single parenting blog, they thought I would be a prime candidate to join their quest to try and find myself three dates in three months. The idea is, I go on one date from their website and then try to think of two other more unusual ways of finding myself a date…

I’m not sure if you have noticed a distinct lack of posts on my blog last/this week, but this is due to a long weekend away with some of my (mainly single) besties to Dublin. Originally booked for Waverley and mine’s birthday, but while we were there, we thought it might be an awesome opportunity to try to bag ourselves a man. Let’s face it, who in their right mind doesn’t love that dreamy Irish accent?

We started by enjoying some of the famous (mainly male orientated) tourist attractions like the Guinness Storehouse and the Old Jameson’s Distillery. Both of the options we thought would open up doors to an endless supply of the male species! However, they unfortunately seemed more interested in the endless supply of alcohol than us girls!

We had also clocked before our little holiday that the six nations were starting this weekend, and as if by magic, there was an Ireland v Scotland game to be played on the Sunday at Lansdowne Rd. A perfect opportunity if ever I saw one, to find ourselves a man. Unfortunately, we were too late to get tickets to the match, but the streets were knee deep in testosterone and men in tartan skirts, which definitely caused a stir.

Then, imagine our surprise when walking through the beautiful St Stevens gardens and out the other side, we happened upon a crowd of rugby fans congregating outside the very swanky Shelbourne Hotel and surrounding the Irish, rugby teams bus. This was definitely the bonus of the weekend! Especially as while I was taking a photo of the girls by the coach, on walked the team to cheers from the crowd. We even got a cheeky wave from Rob Kearney and Brian O’Driscoll, a couple of the players.

But no matter what opportunities we took to immense ourselves in men this weekend, we never even got a sniff of a date, no swapping of numbers and apart from a couple of drunkards walking up to my mates and shouting “you’re beautiful” we didn’t even get chatting to any… well, unless you can count the lovely (old) taxi driver!

This has taught me yet again that my friends are much more important to me than finding a man. We all had such a great “girlie” weekend, with plenty of delicious food, Jameson’s and belly laughs that we didn’t NEED to meet the men of our dreams to make us happy… Because we had each other and that was more than enough for us!
